With 2013 quickly drawing to a close, all eyes are beginning to look to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil as the next major sporting event that will be truly global in nature.  With nearly one in every four people on earth expected to watch the World Cup, LNBG LLC and Lord Neil Gibson have announced preliminary plans to host a five day indoor soccer tournament called the World Indoor Football Championship in Las Vegas to act as a preliminary event early in the year.  While the specifics of the event are still being developed, expected interest from sponsors, advertisers and investment houses is expected to be quite high.  As many as sixteen countries are expected to participate in the event, garnishing global attention and media.
While coordination of an effort of this magnitude has caused problems in execution for teams in the past, LNBG LLC plan to draw on their long history of creative strategic partnering and their diverse development team to unify the elements necessary to carry out the daunting task of planning, execution and media coverage.  With a worldwide audience comes strategic hurdles as far as distribution, and options are being considered by LNBG LLC that include traditional television and internet exposure.

Business In Belize

A "news" website that originates in Belize called Channel 5 Belize ran a story on July 26 of this year that made claims that were not based in fact regarding Lord Neil Gibson and his associated company Handels Securities Ltd.  In the article (which was published without authorship credits) the writer claims to have no knowledge of Gibson or his business dealings with the leadership of Belize, and goes on to assert that if he has not personally heard of the specifics of these meetings then they must not have happened, even going as far as to claim that the news about the meetings and projects that is referenced on several online spaces dedicated to Neil Gibson is false information in an attempt to dupe investors.  This story was obviously slander and was unsubstantiated by any facts or proof of any kind, only the opinion of the author.  The fact that the piece was not presented as opinion reflects on the credibility of Channel 5 Belize itself as an organization, and proves conclusively that Channel 5 Belize will air any story that is paid for, without any verification of facts or vetting of information.  It is certainly disappointing when "news" organizations act unscrupulously and allow their reputation as a legitimate provider of public information to mislead the general public in this way.

The actual facts in the case are that Lord Neil Gibson and his company Handels Securities Ltd. had been involved in ongoing negotiations and meetings with the leadership of Belize for some time, in an attempt to bring sustainable infrastructure improvements in life-improvement projects to the people of Belize.  The speculation that Gibson had not been in contact with Belizian officials can easily be proven otherwise by viewing the documentation provided by Kim Simplis Barrow, the First Lady of Belize and wife of the Prime Minister, regarding charitable donations and sponsorships of charity events organized by her group "The Inspiration Center" in Feb. of this year.

Information on the proceedings can be viewed at the following links http://lordneilbenjamingibson.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/BELIZE-EVENT.pdf and http://lordneilbenjamingibson.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/BELIZE-10-K-DONATION0001.pdf and also verified through numerous other sources associated with Neil Gibson.

Syria no-fly zone: Russia's Sergei Lavrov opposed

Syrian rebel fighters belonging to the Martyrs of Maaret al-Numan battalion leave their position after a range of shootings on 13 June 2013 in Maaret al-Numan The US has pledged to support the Syrian opposition with military aid
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said any attempt to enforce a no-fly zone over Syria using US fighter jets and missiles operating from Jordan would violate international law.
The US has moved Patriot missiles and F-16 fighter jets to Jordan, officially as part of an annual exercise.
Russia opposes any foreign military intervention in the Syrian conflict.
The uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, which began in 2011, has left an estimated 93,000 people dead.

Russian foreign minister

Will US arms fix Syrian problem?
Obama's half-hearted Syria shift
"There have been leaks from Western media regarding the serious consideration to create a no-fly zone over Syria through the deployment of Patriot anti-aircraft missiles and F-16 jets in Jordan," said Mr Lavrov, speaking at a joint news conference in Moscow with his Italian counterpart.
"You don't have to be a great expert to understand that this will violate international law," he said.
Mr Lavrov also said evidence presented by the US of chemical weapons use in Syria apparently did not meet reliability criteria set out by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
Turning tide
The US administration said earlier this week that it would give lethal aid to the Syrian rebels in light of evidence that President Assad's forces had used chemical weapons in the civil war.
The support of the West's regional allies, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, helped the rebels after the uprising became militarised.
But the tide turned after the Syrian government turned to Moscow and Tehran for help.
Hezbollah fighters from Lebanon have also been involved in a recent government's counter-offensive that resulted in the recapture of the strategically important town of Qusair.
On Friday, Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah promised the group would keep fighting in Syria "wherever needed"

Buffett devotees stick by him even as growth slows

Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett holds his hand over his heart during the singing of the national anthem, at the start of a 5km race sponsored by Brooks Sports Inc., a Berkshire-owned company, in Omaha May 5, 2013, a day after the company's annual meeting. REUTERS-Rick Wilking

OMAHA, Nebraska | Sun May 5, 2013 1:29pm EDT
(Reuters) - Short-seller Douglas Kass, Warren Buffett's handpicked bear, raised a concern on the minds of many shareholders at the "Woodstock for capitalists" this weekend: Has Berkshire Hathaway Inc become so big that it will find it hard to grow?
Many retail investors who converged on Omaha, Nebraska, for Berkshire's annual meeting on Saturday acknowledged that its fastest growth days are likely behind it. But they said Berkshire is still a good long-term bet as faith remains in Buffett and his management team's more than 4-decade-long record of stellar returns, and the company's tentacles into many sectors of the U.S. economy.
"Yes, it is a concern, but I have to get my expectations in line," said Julie Fehrnstrom, a mother of three from Orinda, California, attending her fifth meeting. "They are not driven by short-term decision making and they have really smart management. You really don't always find that."
Sherrie Palmer, a social worker from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, was attending her first Berkshire meeting, one of 35,000 or so investors.
"The steepness of the growth is leveling off, but it's not a concern," Palmer said. "We like the manner in which decisions are made and I don't worry about this being an organization jumping to a fad that won't pan out."
Patience has served Berkshire shareholders well. Investing in companies with dependable businesses and sound management has helped Berkshire as an investment trounce major competitors since Buffett took it over in 1965. Berkshire is now one of the largest U.S. companies by market value, with more than 288,000 employees in dozens of businesses, covering everything from ice cream to underwear and insurance to railroads.
But its massive size - currently around $268 billion in market value - has made it hard for Berkshire to grow as fast as it once did. While Berkshire performs well in down markets, it can lag in rising markets.
Buffett reminded shareholders that 2009-2013 may prove to be the first five-year period ever when the company's growth in book value per share will lag the Standard & Poor's 500 index including dividends.
"People who buy stocks now and hold stocks for 20 years will make money," Buffett told Reuters Insider in an interview on Saturday evening. "Those who hold for 20 days, I don't know what will happen."
M&A, SUCCESSION
It has also become harder for the company to find deals that are large enough to move the needle. In February, Berkshire, along with Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital, struck a deal to buy ketchup maker H.J. Heinz Co, and Buffett said he was looking for more big acquisitions.
But in an interview on Friday, Berkshire Vice Chairman Charlie Munger said high prices have made attractive deals scarce. "With interest rates at zero, the prices being paid for businesses are very high," Berkshire's second-in-command said.
Still, size has advantages. Berkshire's quarterly profit rose nearly 51 percent on solid performance in insurance and many of its other units. The results showed that its more than 80 businesses are benefiting from a strengthening economy, as illustrated by increased traffic on its Burlington Northern railroad unit, new customers for its McLane food distribution business and stepped-up demand for its Forest River recreational vehicles, to name just a few.
"In the 1990s, Warren was criticized for not being 'state of the art,'" said Arthur Cohen, a financial adviser from Highland Park, Illinois, who was attending his 15th meeting. "I'm not critical of his performance since."
Investors have also worried about what will happen to Berkshire after Buffett, 82, and Munger, 89, leave. In his most extensive comments to date about the future of Berkshire after he is gone, Buffett said he still expects the conglomerate to be a partner of choice for distressed companies.
Buffett said he and his board are "solidly in agreement" on who should be the next chief executive - but offered no names - and said his son, Howard, would become chairman to ensure that Berkshire had the right CEO in place.
"The key is preserving a culture and having a successor, a CEO that will have more brains, more energy, more passion for it than even I have," Buffett said in response to a shareholder question at the meeting.
BIG BASH
As Berkshire has grown, so has the yearly extravaganza, now Omaha's second-biggest annual tourism event behind the College World Series baseball tournament. The event attracted many well-known investors, including Mario Gabelli, Leon Cooperman and Chris Davis, as well as mom-and-pop investors.
Missy Krasso, a driver for Happy Cab in Omaha, makes as much as $3,000 in fares during the Berkshire weekend. Wall Street tips well, she said.
Before the meeting began, Buffett roamed an exhibit hall at the arena featuring Berkshire-owned companies. Cherry Coke in hand, he dipped coconut bon-bons in a fondant coating at See's Candies, admired a model Burlington Northern railroad and tossed newspapers. Berkshire owns the Omaha World-Herald and others.
A new addition to the series of events around the meeting this year was an "Invest in Yourself" five-kilometer run through downtown Omaha, with Buffett starting it off, if not necessarily setting the pace.
The real mad sprint began at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, when dozens of shareholders rushed for the best seats directly in front of Buffett and Munger on the arena floor, large enough to be suitable for a rock-star concert.
Sherman Silber, a fertility doctor who has attended the meetings for 15 years, said he misses the "old format" where he could just go to the podium and ask a question. "Now you have to do all this lottery stuff," he said.
But Rosie Smith, a finance executive for a Baltimore book printer, said she keeps coming back for more.
"We came out here, and it was the wildest thing we've ever seen," she said, referring to the first of her 10 visits to the meeting. "Every year, it keeps snowballing."

Battling militants’ ban on polio vaccines in Pakistan’s North Waziristan

BANNU, 28 March 2013 (IRIN) - Parents and officials are going to great lengths to immunize children after militants imposed a ban on polio vaccinations in Pakistan’s restive North Waziristan Agency. Government officials are withholding money and identity documents from groups affiliated with the ban, and parents are travelling long distances to get their children vaccinated, in some cases smuggling the vaccine back home.

Abdul Hassan* emerged recently from the district hospital in Bannu, just outside North Waziristan, clutching his toddler son and niece. Their 100km bus ride from Miranshah, the administrative centre of North Waziristan, was well worth it, he said, because he was able to get the children vaccinated.

“The children have received polio drops, which they had not received for over a year, and that is a relief,” he told IRIN.

Militants in the area banned all polio vaccinations in June 2012, to protest the killing of civilians by drones.

Around “200,000 children have been missed [by polio immunization drives] as a result of the ban in North and South Waziristan”, said Mazhar Nisar, health education adviser at the Prime Minister’s Polio Monitoring and Coordination Cell in Islamabad.

He said this “of course meant greater chances of the virus spreading and endangering more children.”

Despite eradication efforts, polio remains endemic in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

Battling the ban

The government is trying a carrot-and-stick approach to get the ban reversed.

“We are making what efforts we can to bring [the ban] to an end, so the anti-polio campaign can resume,” said Fawad Khan, health director at the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Secretariat in Peshawar.

Nisar told IRIN that the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province, officials at the FATA Secretariat and the political agent - a representative of the federal government - in North Waziristan were “all attempting to talk to tribal elders and sort out matters so anti-polio drives could resume.”

In addition to the negotiations, they are also using colonial-era legislation to impose collective punishment on the areas.

In December 2012, using powers available to him under the Frontier Crimes Regulation of 1901, the political agent for North Waziristan put in place measures that included denying tribal people of North Waziristan passports, national identity cards and other official documentation if community leaders don’t overturn the ban.

A small honorarium to tribal elders was also stopped and development work in some areas has been suspended.

The steps were taken after the Wazir and Dawar tribes declined to back the anti-polio programme, Political Agent Siraj Ahmed Khan said.

Militants had also imposed a polio vaccination ban in South Waziristan but Nisar said this had since been “somewhat relaxed.”

"They told me how to give the drops, and I also brought home enough for two neighbours with small children. I was really scared the militants would discover what I was doing."

A doctor, who asked not to be identified, at the hospital in Wana, the administrative centre of South Waziristan, told IRIN, “Generally people are allowed to bring people into the hospital to receive anti-polio drops, but teams are not permitted to move in the field to deliver them.”

So far, the government’s tactics in North Wazirstan have not led to a relaxation of the unofficial community ban.

Parents act to protect their children

“Our children are still not receiving drops. We are scared for them,” Amina Bibi*, from near Miranshah, told IRIN.

Bibi said she had seen “adults who had suffered polio,” and “was scared of what could happen if the children are not protected.”

Other parents with similar concerns are taking matters into their own hands.

Some “take their children to larger towns like Peshawar or Bannu to receive the polio drops”, said journalist Ayesha Hasan. Peshawar is about 285km from Miranshah.

“My infant son is too young to travel, so I went to Bannu and brought back some vaccines. Doctors there put it in a plastic bottle, packed ice around it and I hid it in a tin of dried milk,” Hazir Gul*, 30, told IRIN.

“They told me how to give the drops, and I also brought home enough for two neighbours with small children,” he said. “I was really scared the militants would discover what I was doing.”

Javed Khan, who works at a clinic in Peshawar, the capital of KP province, told IRIN, “At least a dozen or so families have come to me over the past six months or so and taken vaccine home.”

Distrust, misinformation

An administrative official in Miranshah, who asked not to be named, said, “Yes we know parents are bringing in vaccine. They are desperate, and we try to help discreetly.”

These actions take considerable courage as they expose the parents to potential violence from the anti-polio vaccine militants. The militants in North Waziristan have campaigned vigorously against the polio vaccine, and, according to Hasan, “planted in the minds of people the idea that it may be harmful for their children in some way.”

She said that even people who had previously served as polio immunization workers have voiced suspicions that the vaccine could affect reproduction or be harmful in other ways.

A polio vaccination centre in Bannu District, close to the border of North Waziristan, is a popular choice for parents hunting for the vaccine.

But, as Gul said, “It is not easy to move long distances with children, and the militants could find out where we are going.” He added, “So far whatever measures the government is taking seem to have had no impact here.”

Syria: UN refugee agency urges access for humanitarian aid

26 March 2013 – The United Nations refugee agency today reiterated its appeal to all parties to ensure safe passage for convoys delivering humanitarian aid to civilians inside Syria.

“In the current security environment, several convoys have had to be cancelled or delayed. This is depriving many Syrians of vitally needed help,” the spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Adrian Edwards, told journalists in Geneva.

UNHCR has been working to scale up its operations and is working with governmental and non-governmental parties to see that aid gets through, “however, right now assistance is only reaching a fraction of those in need,” Mr. Edwards noted.

The UN estimates that at least 3.6 million people are now internally displaced in Syria as a result of the conflict that began two years ago.

As of 20 March, UNHCR and partners have delivered relief items – including bedding, shelter, household items and clothing – to more than 437,000 Syrians in some of the most affected provinces, including Aleppo, Al-Hassakeh, Raqqah, Damascus, Dara'a, Deir Ezzor, Hama and Idlib.

Mr. Edwards added the UNHCR’s goal is to deliver relief items to at least one million people by June 2013 and “we hope to reach many more people in the months after that.”

The agency has also strengthened existing presences in Aleppo, Al-Hasakeh and Damascus with new facilities in Al Nabak and Homs.

In the northern part of the country, the UN, local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) have carried out four convoys this year, Mr. Edwards said. The most recent delivery of food aid went from Damascus to Tal Abiyad in Ar Raqqah province.

“Seven trucks loaded with 130 tons of aid arrived on 18 March. The trucks were organized by SARC,” he said. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) sent four trucks with 5,000 food baskets.

In addition to aid, Mr. Edwards said that UNHCR gave financial support to 6,400 families in Damascus this year. The agency plans to expand its financial assistance programme in Homs in the coming weeks, delayed so far due to insecurity.

Yesterday the UN decided to temporarily reduce the presence of international staff in Damascus due to security conditions. Most of the Damascus-based staff of the Office of the Joint Representative for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, are being temporarily relocated to Beirut, Lebanon, and to the Joint Special Representative’s main office in Cairo. The Office’s national staff have been asked to work from home, until further notice.

There are approximately 100 international and 800 national staff in Damascus working with the offices of the Joint Special Representative, the Resident Coordinator, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and various UN agencies and programmes.

Lord Neil B Gibson and the SEED Foundation

Stability Education Economic Development S.E.E.D
The SEED Foundation

Preface For many years there has been a need for a special type of cooperation between concerned people in the business, finance, economics and government communities. They were worried about how to make jobs, expand business soundly, increase economic activity and at the same time were greatly concerned about the effects this could cause. More jobs sound good but what about the training needed for these new jobs. Would this expansion be creating a specific new class of worker that could be adapted from the existing work force? The finance community was worried about the load that increased need for finance for the new business expansion would place on other sectors. Sometimes in a booming economy people spend rather than save, this cutting into the amount of funds available for business lending. The cost of finance sometimes goes up in an attempt to control needless borrowing while at the same time this can effect the costs of goods or services making some of them outside of the reach of even the average earner. There were also new concerns with the effects of this expansion on the environment. How do you allow for business to expand using more raw materials and natural resources and keep those materials still available to the population at large? More factories, more cars, more energy generation all spell problems for air, water and living quality. There is no easy answer. Certainly there are answers somewhere, but how does a business, a concerned business, find those answers?
The SEED is one of those places. When you have enough people who have a broad enough experience that are willing to share for the common good and at the same time actually allow for their own businesses to flourish you have one of the major answers to the world condition. You have amassed the raw material for constructing a bridge that all businesses and people can traverse together that will be built together to span common problems. When you have the ability and access to capital enhancement and retention through proper fiscal management you have a safety factor. This safety factor is something that individual companies and businesses spend years and dollars to develop.
The SEED brings that experience to the table to be joined with the new ideas and applications of the ever-changing world conditions. This access to shared experience and fiscal stability melded together becomes the safety net. With the world shrinking every day new products and technologies developing by the hour this organization will make those facts known to its membership in a manner where both provider and user benefit. World trade is no longer something that effects only those directly involved, it affects us all. It brings a wider range of options for whatever we might want to do or buy; use or desire; or make or sell. So if an organization is truly going to serve the business community, it must be able to serve it on an international basis. Marketplaces are growing and so is the need for an organization that tends to those needs. The days of business people expecting their governments to provide them with more at the expense of their individuality are dwindling. The calls today are more along the line of, “I know what I can do, I just need the chance without hindrance.” The SEED gives that chance to learn about and actually expand in the international marketplace, all of this done while supporting the need for local domestic expansion as well. Homes manufactured in Nebraska can be sold to people in Poland. Concrete made from volcanic ash in the Philippines can find its way to Africa. This project steered by someone from Germany working for a Canadian Company. The SEED, businesses working together to expand their own economies while strengthening others around the world with the support of sound fiscal practices.
